Approximately 192,000 and 330,000 Jewish settlers live illegally in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, Palestine. The Jewish-only settlements in which they live are illegal under international law. Israel refuses to halt settlement construction as a precondition to resume peace talks.
Upon fresh condemnation from the UN for Israel approving more settlement plans to steal more Palestinian land, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu boasted: “What the UN says doesn’t interest me,” adding, “We will build in [Palestine’s side of] Jerusalem because this is our right.”
Further to building (and to make way for) settlements, Israel demolished 581 structures and 182 homes belonging to Palestinians in this year alone, displacing 1,049 Palestinians.
